Design for Safety (DfS) Review

In response to the accelerating demand for a safety paradigm shift, Samsung C&T’s E&C Group has established a comprehensive Design for Safety (DfS) process covering design, construction, use, and management, and has built a DfS Library. We are committed to fulfilling our social responsibility by promoting a Safety First culture in the Korean construction industry and leading the way in ESG management.

Expected Benefits

The risk reduction effect of design for safety is maximized when it is applied in the early stages of a project

Time/safety Influence Curve(Szymberski 1987)

Hierarchy of Controls for Risk Reduction

Priority shall be given to establishing and implementing measures that fundamentally eliminate hazards, and effective safety measures shall be implemented by considering engineering controls, administrative controls, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Our Framework for DfS (Design for Safety)

Moving beyond safety activities focused on the construction stage, this framework aligns with the Company’s order and construction processes. Based on past accident cases, safety risks are reviewed from the bidding stage, proactive measures are derived, and these are reflected in design, schedule, and cost to secure a safe construction environment in advance and improve productivity
